Congratulations expectant parents! I'm Rhi a birth and postnatal doula living in Bognor Regis. I came into this work when I realised in hindsight how needed a Doula was in my first pregnancy and birth. I had a positive hospital induction birth, but I really needed someone there to advocate my birth wishes and question the necessity of the process. Then in my second pregnancy I had a doula and took the time to plan my postpartum period. My second pregnancy, birth and postpartum felt vastly different to my first birth. Having someone by my side to support my birth choices, relay information from consultant appointments, to talk options through and back up my birth wishes with evidence gave me the confidence I needed to birth my own way. It was a beautiful experience and I left it feeling like a goddess, yet sad that more women probably won't get the same experience. So I wish I could say that a Birth and Postnatal Doula isn't necessary but unfortunately with the state of the maternity service, women aren't receiving the emotional, practical and informational support they deserve. This is where a Birth and Postnatal Doula comes in.

A Doula In Pregnancy
I am by your side, readily available throughout your pregnancy to discuss your birth choices so you gain clarity, or provide antenatal education about birth physiology, pain relief options and the biomechanics of birth. I continue to support you at home and at antenatal appointments so you never leave an appointment with more questions than answers and leave feeling confident and empowered.
A Doula In Birth
I fully support your birth wherever and however you choose; labour ward hospital birth, midwife led unit, home birth, free birth. I support you, your birth partner, the midwives and consultants to form a fully functional team working together to ensure that your birth choices are being adhered to and that you receive practical and emotional support in the form of; massages, biomechanics, breath for labour, reassurance and a calmer more empowered birth experience. Research shows that having a Doula significantly increases the chances of having a more positive birth experience (Sobczak et al 2023) and an easier transition into parenthood.
